Event Details

One of the eighty grand affairs at the TD Halifax Jazz Festival, July 8-16, 2011.

Sisters Euclid (TO)
jazz / blues / rock

Sisters Euclid is a guitar fan’s band. Led by outstanding guitarist Kevin Breit, the jazz rock group are known for using the standard seventies bar band instrumentation — guitar, hammond organ, bass and drums — as a solid rock anchor while pushing each song’s arrangement in a brave, sometimes loose and sometimes spastic manner. This bold and adventurous attitude shifts the familiar jam band sound into overdrive and ensures that anyone who sees Sisters Euclid takes note of their abilities and sensibili- ties. Having maintained residence at Toronto’s Orbit Room, recording ten CDs and touring Canada and Europe extensively, Sisters Euclid have rightfully gained a reputation for delivering a full range of the unexpected — a mix of earthy, dreamy, challenging jazz-rock, psychedelic blues, and mongrel reggae. Get close to the stage, you will want to see every move.

Personnel: Kevin Breit (guitar), Mark Lalama (hammond), Ian de Souza (bass) and Gary Taylor (drums)

Harry Manx (BC)
blues / fusion / roots

“Mysticssippi” blues man Harry Manx has been called an “essential link” between the music of East and West, creating musical short stories that wed the tradition of the Blues with the depth of classical Indian ragas. He has created a unique sound that is hard to forget and deliciously addic- tive to listen to. Blending Indian folk melodies with blues, a sprinkle of gospel, and compelling grooves, Manx’s “mysticssippi” flavour is hard to resist, easy to digest and keeps audiences coming back for more.

Personnel: Harry Manx (guitars, banjo, percus- sion, vocals)
